I’m due to travel and want to understand what I’m covered for under first direct Travel Insurance

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) now advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Travel insurance covers you for non-refundable costs. Your first step should be to contact your travel or accommodation provider and ask for a refund.

You’ll be able to make a claim if you took out your first direct Travel Insurance policy and booked a trip before the FCO advised against all or all but essential travel and this advice is in place 31 days before your departure date.
