Promotional rates are only available to first direct Current Account holders who haven't had a first direct Credit Card or Gold Card within the last six months. As you'd expect, credit is subject to status.

What happens at the end of the promotional period?
At the end of the promotional period the rate will change to the standard variable rate that applies at the time.
Once you've received your card give us call on 03 456 100 100. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Transfer requests received after 3.30pm or on a weekend or bank holiday will be processed the next working day. It can take up to five working days for the money to reach your other credit or store card provider.
Sorry - we can't transfer balances between cards operated by members of the HSBC Group, including HSBC UK Bank plc, its subsidiaries, associated and affiliated companies. These include Marks & Spencer Financial Services plc and John Lewis Financial Services Limited. We can't process transfers from all cards, for example, some store cards.
*Credit Card – The rate for balance transfers is 0% interest for 27 months when you make a balance transfer within three months of opening your account. After 27 months the rate for the transferred balance will change to the standard variable rate that applies at the time.
*Gold Card - The rate for purchases is 0% interest for 17 months from opening your account. At the end of the promotional period the rate on the outstanding balance will change to the standard variable rate that applies at the time.
Who can apply?
All we ask is that you can say yes to everything below:
- You’re 18 or over
- You are a UK resident and live permanently in the UK
- You have an annual income/pension before tax of £6,800 or more
- You haven’t been declared bankrupt or registered for an Individual Voluntary Agreement in the last 6 years (or in the process of doing so.)
