Self assessment tax payment

If you’re filling out a tax self-assessment for the tax year 2022/2023, and need proof of the interest you earned on your savings, you can order a tax certificate (or certificate of interest) via our chatbot – here’s how:

  • Online Banking - choose the ‘message us’ option in the blue box and then write ‘order a tax certificate’ to get started
  • App – go to ‘Help’ and choose ‘Chat now’ then write ‘order a tax certificate’ to get started.

If you’ve already completed your tax self-assessment and you know how much you need to pay in tax for 2022/2023, you can set up a payment by using the following instructions.

Payment deadline for this year:

  •  All payments need to be received by midnight on Wednesday 31 January.

We recommend you make the payment in good time, so you don’t have to worry about it arriving on time.

  • 6 steps to make your self assessment payment

    1. Log on to our App or Online Banking using your secure key (please note - for new App payments you need a Digital Secure Key)

    2. Select ‘Move Money’

    3. If you’ve made a self assessment payment in the last 12 months, your details should be saved in your list of payees. You might find you need to authorise the payment with your secure key, even if you did make your payment last year.

    If you haven’t paid this way before, select the ‘Move Money’ menu option and select the account you want to pay from.

    Next select ‘New large business’ and the ‘Search’ option on an iOS device, or the ‘Company’ option on an Android device.

    Type ‘HMRC’ into the search bar and scroll down the list of HMRC payee details until you find either ‘HMRC SELF ASSESSMENT CUMBERNAULD’ or ‘HMRC SELF ASSESSMENT SHIPLEY’

    4. To find out which self assessment option you need, have a look at the account number on your bill;

    • if it's 12001020, select 'HMRC SELF ASSESSMENT SHIPLEY'
    • if it's 12001039 - or if you're unsure or don't have a bill - select 'HMRC SELF ASSESSMENT CUMBERNAULD'

    5. Ensure you use your 11 character reference when you pay (this is your 10 digit unique taxpayer reference followed by the letter ‘K’). Your unique taxpayer reference isn’t your National Insurance Number, it’s the number issued to you by HMRC when you registered for self assessment. It can be found on your tax return (SA100) or your Statement of Account (SA316).

    6. Confirm the payment and follow the instructions to verify it – all sorted.
